Looking back, what were some of your earliest entries into music appreciation? And music production?
I appreciated music from a very early age. I was surrounded by live music as a kid and would play the drums as a toddler. Music production didn’t start until I was in middle school. I took an electronic music course and it was all up, up, and up from there 🙂
Give us a sense of the music scene where you are based.
The music scene in Nevada City is very dance-heavy. Lots of people from all over gather just here just because there are so many good dancers in town. There’s a big ecstatic dance scene and the crowd here is always fun to play for. I’ve even got to be a better dancer myself!
What key pieces of software/gear are you using to define your sound?
I don’t think any key piece of software defines my sound. If anything it would be me and my voice. I record a lot of samples directly from whatever cool sounds my mouth is producing. I would say blissy keys and djembe defines my sound as well.
What are some of your key musical influences?
Key musical influences – Paul Simon, Sigur Ros, and Deadmau5. I know that’s a strange combo but if you put them together you can kind of see where my sound comes from.
What kind of relationship do you have with the internet? How does this inform your artistic expression?
My relationship with the internet. I still haven’t figured out. I can say I’m grateful for it though!
What would you like to achieve with your music? What does success look like to you?
I’d like to be headlining major festivals and uniting people together. Success to me looks like a large diverse crowd of people excited to be dancing to my music all feeling blissed out in love.
What has been a memorable highlight of your career so far?
Playing Northern Nights at the River stage was a memorable moment for me. It was one of the first times I got to enjoy my music with a large crowd of others right on a beautiful river. I love Nature.
If you could work with, or perform alongside any artist of your choice, who would it be?
I’d like to work with Olafur Arnalds. He’s amazing, if you haven’t heard of him look him up immediately 🙂
If you weren’t a musician what would you be?
If I wasn’t a musician I would probably be some type of clever businessman, however, if I was a few inches taller and worked really hard, perhaps I’d be in the NBA. Basketball is a huge passion of mine.
What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
I’ve got lots of upcoming things in the future. You’ll just have to stay tuned to find out :).
